Licenses & Attribution
Public-domain and open-licensed sources used across the ZVBible study hub
Why only public-domain English?
ZVBible is forged to be freely distributable — installable as a PWA and shareable without licensing fees or per-seat agreements. Popular modern translations such as the NIV, ESV, NASB, and NLT are excellent texts, but they are copyrighted and cannot be bundled or redistributed in an open study tool without publisher permission and royalty arrangements. That would fracture the mission: the sword forged for every believer, and the harvest gathered without tolls. KJV, WEB, and BSB are complete, reverent English renderings placed in the public domain so the connecting work of Scripture can flow unhindered. Optional language packs are free editions published as static files with the site (pipeline from open sources such as HelloAO/eBible); Globe install stores text and fonts offline in this browser, and Settings selects among packs already installed.
Search synonym & antonym map (offline thesaurus)
OEWN CC-BY 4.0 / WordNet
Progressive synonym and antonym expansion on Search uses a compact offline map (data/search-thesaurus.en.json), built at generate-time from Open English WordNet (OEWN, CC-BY 4.0) when available, or a WordNet-compatible extract / curated seed. Every headword, synonym, and antonym is pruned to tokens that appear in KJV, BSB, or WEB after the same normalization as Bible text search. Antonyms omit tokens already listed as synonyms for the same lemma. Optional secondary synonym coverage may include Moby Thesaurus (public domain). Curated emoji and chat-slang seeds (e.g. ❤️ → love, tho → though) only rewrite the expansion lemma; they never alter licensed verse bodies.
Regenerate with npm run data:build:search-thesaurus; pass OEWN_JSON=… for a full OEWN build.
English translations
Choose among these in Settings. KJV verse numbers are authoritative for navigation everywhere.
The Authorized (King James) Version was completed in 1611 and revised for spelling and consistency in 1769. ZVBible uses KJV verse numbers as the authoritative navigator because they align with our Hebrew (OSHB) and Greek (SBLGNT) cross-reference graph and interlinear glosses.

Nave's Topical Bible (Search topics)
Public domain + CC BY 4.0 packaging
Search can surface subjects from Nave's Topical Bible (Orville J. Nave, 1896/1897) — a classic public-domain topical concordance. Topic titles and scripture references are redistributed so you can add or remove topics from a search. Related-topic chips (similar / opposite) are study aids generated for navigation — not Scripture text. ZVBible does not alter licensed verse bodies; topic rows only point to references.
